"CSK’s lone warrior": Fans greet Sanju Samson after impressive century against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026

In the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Classic between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), match number 33 at the Wankhede Stadium, Sanju Samson scored his second hundred for CSK in IPL 2026. He was excellent during the first innings and held his own at the other end.

Sanju Samson didn’t have the best start in the tournament, failing in the first three games for his new franchise, but he has been at his best now. Sanju displayed deft touch from the first ball he played, controlled the innings and played excellent cricket shots. Sanju Samson scored a boundary off the last ball to score his hundred.

Sanju Samson defends CSK

Sanju Samson was batting at 85 when the last over started, and he scored 16 runs off Krish Bhagat’s last over to score his second IPL century this season. He returned with a score of 101* in 54 balls. With their hundred, CSK crossed the 200-run mark as the Men in Yellow team scored 207/6 at the end of 20 overs.

The wicketkeeper-batsman becomes the first player to reach 2 centuries in #IPL2026. This is his fifth score of 89+ in T20 in the last 8 weeks. He also became the fifth Indian batsman to score two centuries in a single IPL season. He started badly in the first three innings, scoring 22 runs, and in the next four he scored 271 runs.

Can CSK defend the total?

Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to play first. CSK, after being invited to bat first, got off to a good start, with Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring aggressively, but could not convert the 22-run start into a big score and were dismissed. Then the shutters continued to fall and Samson was trapped at one end.

Then a small cameo by Dewald Brevis scoring 21 off 11 balls increased the run rate in the middle overs. However, CSK could not keep up the pace and the flurry of wickets in the middle pushed them back.

Although Samson had other ideas, he stuck with it till the end and put CSK on a good result. Allah Ghazanfar was the pick of the bowlers with four overs, 2/25.
