"Damn well done:" Virat Kohli praises RCB’s batting performance against LSG in IPL 2026

Virat Kohli once again proved why he remains one of the biggest match winners in the IPL. Despite suffering from knee pain and illness, Virat Kohli beautifully led Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) chase in their IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 15.

Virat Kohli made the chase look easy with his brilliant knock of 49 runs off 34 balls at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He picked the right moments to attack, which helped RCB finish the match in 15.1 overs with five wickets in hand against LSG.

RCB’s bowlers also excelled during the innings. Rasikh Salam Dar was the star player with the ball, picking up 4 wickets and breaking the backbone of LSG’s batting.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar supported him well with 3 wickets, while Krunal Pandya picked up two wickets and Josh Hazlewood kept the pressure on LSG with a brilliant spell of 1/20 in his four overs.

Kohli praises RCB’s smart approach, teamwork

After the match, RCB shared a video on their social media with the teams’ celebration and moments in the locker room. In that clip, Kohli said he was happy with the team’s performance and praised the way RCB handled the modest chase against LSG.

The former captain felt that the defending champions played smart cricket, and even after losing Phil Salt early, Rajat, Jitesh and others stayed positive and kept attacking, which did not allow the Lucknow bowler to return to the match.

Virat Kohli said in the video: “Guys, another good win for us. I think we were quite professional with the defence, a conscious effort to try and take the game away from the opposition from the beginning. In small periods of pressure, we picked the right shots, put pressure on the opposition again and stayed ahead of the game at all times.”

Kohli mocks Romario Shepherd and Krunal Pandya; expects RCB to continue the momentum

However, the RCB icon was not happy with the minor batting collapse against LSG, though he mocked Romario Shepherd (14* off 8 balls) for finally getting some time in the middle. He also joked that Krunal Pandya missed the batting against LSG but hopes to see him in the next game.

The former Indian captain further added: “From a personal perspective and also from the batting group’s perspective, I think I would have liked to see us finish 2 or 3 down. I don’t like to see collapses, but very well done, and it’s good to see Sheppy finally get some time with his back and finish the game. KP is the only one left now, so everyone gets some game time, and we’ll probably see a celebration next time.”

Overall, Kohli was pleased with the performance and said that RCB is moving in the right direction with good teamwork and trust, and now they just have to maintain this in the future of the tournament. He said: “Well done, very professional, we will keep moving forward.”
