Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting has given a massive update on David Warner’s fitness ahead of the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said that the batsman will undergo a fitness test and will be evaluated based on that.
Delhi Capitals suffered an injury during their recent game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. David Warner injured his thumb while playing in the game at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. .
After the game, David Warner went for scans and since then there has been no clarity on his physical condition. With the Delhi Capitals set to take on the Gujarat Titans in their next game on Wednesday (April 17) at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad, there has been a lot of speculation about the batsman’s availability.
Head coach Ricky Ponting spoke about David Warner’s fitness and said the X-ray did not show any problems but the opening batsman has swelling around the knuckle of his left hand. He added that Warner’s availability will depend on his physical testing the morning of the game. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“David had an x-ray after the last game. That x-ray came back fine. But he has a lot of swelling around the knuckle of his left hand. We’ll give him a physical tomorrow morning and keep our fingers crossed that he’ll be okay.”
David Warner has been one of the best in IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals. The first batsman has scored 166 runs in 6 matches. He will be extremely important for his team heading into the tournament.
David Warner, however, is not the only Delhi Capitals player who has been injured in the ongoing IPL 2024. Previously, Lungi Ngidi was ruled out of the tournament due to injury and then Harry Brook withdrew due to personal reasons. To make matters worse, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh suffered a hamstring injury and had to return home.

Ricky Ponting continued to talk about Delhi Capitals’ performance in the ongoing IPL 2024. He believes they could have won five games so far, as they lost some close games in the tournament. He stressed that they are working hard and are fully prepared. He added:
“The main message I have sent to the players over the last six games is how close we have been. We could easily be here with five wins and one loss. So, we understand how close we are and how close the tournament is. But no you can afford to be close to being good in the IPL.
“You have to show up and be very good every day. We know we have to improve in certain areas of our cricket. And believe me, we are working very hard every day to make sure we are good.” as well prepared as we can be.
