Avesh Khan, on Tuesday (April 16), took one of the best follow-up catches to send back the dangerous Phil Salt in the ongoing game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The England star was in impressive form, especially at Eden Gardens. In two matches at the stadium in the ongoing IPL 2024, he has scored two half-centuries. He scored 54 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first game before scoring an unbeaten 89 against Lucknow Super Giants in the last game.

With Salt fit, RR needed something special to get rid of him. The visitors could have had the wicket of him in the first over when she offered an easy catch to Riyan Parag even before opening his account. However, Parag dropped an absolute babysitter at a very late point.

But before Salt could inflict serious damage on RR, Avesh Khan came up with a sensational catch to send him back. It was the third delivery of the fourth over and the right-arm pacer bowled one just outside off stump. The KKR opener wanted to smash the ball hard beyond the bowler, but he ended up beating it.

However, he still looked confident at first as the ball was wide of Avesh Khan. The RR player, however, was in no mood to waste the opportunity. He extended his left hand and lunged in time to complete a sensational catch.

An interesting celebration followed the capture. As soon as he completed the catch, Avesh Khan pointed the finger at captain Sanju Samson. Later, he took one of his captain’s gloves and showed it to the RR dugout while he and his teammates laughed.

The celebration could be a reaction to Samson’s comments after the match against Punjab Kings last week. RR’s outfielders had difficulty communicating well on the field while making catches. In one case, Samson and Avesh Khan collided with each other and ended up catching a ball.

After the game, Samson said, “We had some fun times last year and this year. But I’m really happy that everyone is excited to go catch it. I’d be really sad if people just stayed away and didn’t get it.” .

“Actually, it becomes a bit difficult: the stadium is full of noise and when people call, we look at the ball, we can’t see who is coming. I need to tell my fast bowlers that it is a bit easier to catch it with the gloves instead of the hands.”
