Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was all praise for his teammates’ brave fight in the recently concluded match against Delhi Capitals. Although GT ended up losing the game by four runs, his captain made sure to praise his teammates for his efforts.

Chasing 225 runs, GT looked almost out of the game as they were reduced to 152 for 6 in the 16th over. However, people like David Miller, Rashid Khan and R Sai Kishore made valiant efforts and almost pushed GT to the limit. In the end, the Gujarat-based team finished their innings with 220/8.

In the 17th over, Miller completed a 21-ball fifty by smashing Anrich Nortje for 24 runs, including three sixes and a four. After their departure in the 18th over, Rashid and Kishore scored 18 runs in the 19th over bowled by Rasikh Salam. In the final over, Rashid hit Mukesh Kumar for two fours and a six, but could not score the 19 runs needed to take his team to the finish line.

Early in the game, half-centuries from Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel helped DC recover from 44 for 3 and post a grand total of 224 for 4 in 20 overs. Pant remained unbeaten on 88 runs off just 43 balls with the help of five fours and eight sixes. On the other hand, Axar scored 66 runs.

“I think we played some really good cricket, it was disappointing to lose at the end but everyone showed great character. Great fight until the end and we never thought we were out of the game at any point. When you’re chasing 224, there’s no point talking about plans, just go out and score runs. Shubman Gill said after the loss.

Shubman Gill on poor finishing with the ball:

Shubman Gill regretted that his team failed to finish the ball strongly. In the last three overs, DC scored as many as 67 runs, including 31 runs in the final over bowled by Mohit Sharma. At the same time, the GT skipper was not too harsh on his teammates, pointing out that there was very little room for error on the “small terrain.”

“At one point we thought we could restrict them to 200-210, but we gave away some extra runs in the last 2-3 overs. But this is a small wicket, we talked about the same thing when we came out to chase.

“Execution becomes very important, if there is a set batsman or a finisher, you will have to execute well. It is okay if there is something on the wicket, but on pitches like this, you will have to make sure you execute with all your strength.” plans perfectly, whether they are the yorkers or the variations”, Shubman Gill said.
