India senior pacer Mohammed Shami criticized BCCI and IPL rule makers for imposing a 1-match ban on Capitals of Delhi Captain Rishabh pants.
The BCCI’s decision proved extremely costly as the capitals lost their match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore Sunday night.
Rishabh Pant, who made his successful comeback in IPL 2024 after the horrific car accident, holds the key to Delhi’s middle-order and without him, the team suffered. Last night Axar Patel replaced his role in M. Chinnaswamy.
What did Mohammed Shami say about Rishabh Pant?
On his YouTube channel, Mohammed Shami made a separate video on the issue of BCCI banning Rishabh Pant during a match, costing Delhi its playoff chances. Shami, known for expressing himself without hesitation, first shed light on the negative effect Pant’s ban had on the Delhi capitals.
Shami personally admitted that banning the captain of any team at the end of IPL 2024 is a big setback for that particular team. He said that not just for Rishabh Pant but in a general sense he tried to convey that the rule makers should not do such things as they directly impact the outcome of the match.
On the topic of slow overrating, Mohammed Shami said he has seen a lot of slow games towards the end of a game. He understood the fact that Delhi Capitals maintained a slow over-rate for which they were also fined, but termed the decision to ban Pant as “shocking”.
“Personally speaking, at this stage, suspending a captain is a big blow to the team. Many times, we have seen slow matches towards the end of a game. I admit that DC maintained a slow pace for which they were fined, but suspend to the captain during a match is shocking.” – said Mohammad Shami in his YouTube video.
Shami blames match referee for DC setback
Mohammad Shami then added that it was either a mistake or a shocking decision by the referee of the match between DC and Rajasthan Royals. Shami said Delhi was absolutely “shocked” with that result and expressed his disagreement with Rishabh Pant receiving a one-match suspension.
Shami concluded by saying that regardless of what people say about the rules, according to him, this should have never happened since this is the last stage of the league.
“The match referee has given a big shake to DC, and that should not have happened, considering this is the last stage of the tournament. People talk about rules but, in my opinion, this should not have happened.” – Shami concluded.
Delhi to face Lucknow in last league match
After seeing their play-off hopes reduced, Delhi Capitals will take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Arun Jaitley Stadium tomorrow. Both Delhi and Lucknow are in a do-or-die situation and the equality will make the match much more exciting.
