The 19th match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) was between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT). It is the first match of the doubleheader, as both teams came into the game after winning a thriller in their last games respectively. While chasing a target of 165 GT, opener Sai Sudharsan was dismissed by Digvesh Rathi, who sparked fresh celebration.
LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi on the first ball of the penultimate over of the powerplay, as a mid-tracker off Rathi, which was missed by the left-hander, went straight to short fine leg towards Avesh Khan. Digvesh Rathi, after picking up the wicket, brought his trademark celebration of signing a notebook, but in a different way.
The new celebration of Digvesh Rathi
This time Rathi brought out the celebration and did it on the ground. GT are in a good phase at 64/1 after the end of seven overs. Titans captain Shubman Gill is still there in the box and looks in good contact. This is not the first time that LSG has brought this celebration before.
In his debut season with the Super Giants, he participated in imitating writing a batter’s name in an imaginary notebook. This parting gesture resulted in multiple fines from the BCCI totaling INR 9 lakh, demerit points and a one-match suspension.
Will Digvesh Rathi be suspended for the celebration?
Earlier, Digvesh earned a demerit point for a similar celebration against the Punjab Kings, during which he made little contact with batsman Priyansh Arya.
After dismissing Naman Dhir, he did something similar and was also fined 50% of his match fee. Now Rathi has been celebrating on the ground. Rathi has been an interesting bowler for the Super Giants as the mystery spinner played well in the last season, and this season he has been decent too.
Prasidh Krishna was the star of GT
Coming into the match, LSG and GT came into this match unchanged from their last win respectively. Gill asked Rishabh Pant’s team to bat first, and they didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing Mitchell Marsh early in the innings. Since then, wickets kept falling and they lost control in the middle.
For the home team, Aiden Markram was the top scorer with 30 runs and no other batsman surpassed the 25-run mark. They could only score 164/8 with some runs from Mohammed Shami and George Linde.
