Former Pakistan captain faces dismissal for England’s second Test: reports

The development comes after the Men in Green suffered a historic defeat in the opening Test in Multan.

In a recent development, a former Pakistan captain will be dropped from the team for the upcoming Pakistan vs England second Test, scheduled to begin on October 15.

The development comes after the Men in Green suffered a historic defeat in the opening Test in Multan.

Pakistan became the first team to lose a Test match after scoring over 500 runs in the first innings.

Pakistan seemed to be in control of the match, posting a massive first innings total of 556. However, they collapsed in an innings and 47-run loss in Multan after England responded with a massive 827/3d and then bowled out the hosts for 220 in the second innings.

Now, a report by ESPNcricinfo reveals that the newly formed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee met in Lahore hours after the first Test loss on Friday (October 11) and recommended dropping Babar Azam .

Babar’s stats have been extremely disappointing.

Following the defeat, Pakistan captain Shan Masood expressed his strong support for Babar Azam, referring to him as “Pakistan’s best batsman” and emphasizing the need for more patience with the players.

However, behind the scenes, the selection panel believed Babar could benefit from a break from the national team as their drought continues.

Babar has not recorded a Test half-century since December 2022 and his form has come under increasing scrutiny with each poor performance.

His struggles were evident against England, where he managed just 35 runs in two innings on a flat pitch. He was beaten on both the inside edge in the first innings and the outside edge in the second.

This extended his streak without a half-century in Test matches to 18 innings. Since the start of 2023, Babar has averaged less than 21 in nine Tests.
