Shubman Gill has been in the spotlight in the T20I series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team. The opening batsman failed in the first two games of the series and then put in a decent batting performance in the ongoing game.
Shubman Gill, who opened the innings, was in great form by playing some accurate shots in his innings. However, despite getting off to a great start, he could not capitalise on the opportunity to score some runs quickly for his team in the match. The batsman was left stuck at the crease as the pitch slowed down.
With the way Shubman Gill started his innings, he was expected to play an attacking role and help his team score a big total on the board. However, this was not the case as he slowed down in the middle overs and as a result of this, India was unable to score a big total on the board.
Shubman Gill got to fifty but he was not at his best. The batsman, even after reaching fifty, failed to get the bowlers to score runs as he seemed to be locked in on himself. With the kind of start India had, they looked set for a total of 200 but it is fair to say that the captain’s innings put them on the back foot.
Shubman Gill finished with an innings of 66 runs off 49 balls. He had a strike rate of 134 and hit 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Ruturaj Gaikwad (49) put in a brutal effort and thanks to that, India finished with 182 runs on the board.

Many times Shubman Gill bats with a modern ODI approach in T20Is. His obsession with batting deep can cost the team some very important runs when we have batting depth and batsmen remaining like today. We could have scored at least 25-30 more runs if he had shown a better approach between the 5th and 16th over.
