Sai Sudharsan, on Friday (May 10), created history by becoming the fastest Indian player to score 1000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The left-handed batsman achieved the feat during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He reached 1000 runs in IPL when he hit CSK pacer Simarjeet Singh for successive sixes in the 11th over and moved to 71 runs off 38 deliveries.

Sai Sudharsan completed 1000 runs in just 25 innings and broke the record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both Tendulkar and Gaikwad had completed 1000 runs in 31 innings. Tendulkar had completed 1000 IPL runs in 2022, while Gaikwad did so in 2022.

The GT batsman also became the first Indian player to complete 1000 runs in IPL in less than 30 innings. The overall record is held by former Australian and Punjab Kings batsman Shaun Marsh, who did it in 21 innings, while former West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons is second on the list for achieving the milestone. in 23 innings. Sai Sudharsan made his IPL debut in 2022 after being signed up by the Gujarat Titans, who were also making their IPL debut that year. In his first IPL season, the Tamil Nadu star played just 5 games and scored 145 runs with the help of a half-century as Gujarat Titans won the title.

In the second season, he became a key member of the team by playing 8 games. In those eight games, he scored 362 runs, including a 96-run knock against Chennai Super Kings in the final. Unfortunately, his efforts went in vain as CSK won the match.

For the 2024 season, Sai Sudharsan has become an indispensable part of the GT team. Talking about the ongoing match against CSK, the left-hander scored his first century in the IPL. He scored 103 runs off 51 balls with the help of five fours and seven sixes.
