Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) are now under huge pressure in the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (TATA IPL 2026). After their embarrassing 99-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in their home match on April 20, questions are being raised about some key players who have failed to deliver when the team needed them the most.
This crushing defeat has left them at sixth place in the IPL 2026 points table with six points from six matches so far this season, worsening their situation. And now former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has suggested that GT change the batting line-up to make a strong comeback.
Manoj Tiwary demands Rahul Tewatia’s expulsion from Gujarat Titans
The former Indian batsman turned politician singled out Rahul Tewatia after his 8-run knock against the Mumbai Indians despite being GT’s Impact Player in Ahmedabad. The franchise signed Rahul for ₹4 crore, but it turned out to be their biggest flop this season.

So far, Rahul has scored only 49 runs in 6 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 116.67. He has yet to face more than 11 balls this season, which puts pressure on the rest of the GT lineup. Due to his continued poor performance, Tiwary wants the Titans to drop Rahul.
Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan will have to repay GT’s faith: Manoj Tiwary
The cricket expert also suggested that Gill and Ashish Nehra consider showing the door to Shahrukh Khan, who is also a big disappointment for the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2026. So far he has only managed 35 runs in 6 matches at an average of 11.67 and a strike rate of 140.00.
Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz: “You have to rule out Rahul Tewatia or Shahrukh Khan because so many matches have passed. Today was a golden opportunity. Aap jo match jeetaye the Sharjah mein 5 chakke marke woh bhul gaye hai log (People have forgotten the match you won by hitting five sixes in Sharjah). Only a few people remember that. Now, people just remember how you have played in your last innings. These two were retained for a high value, so they will have to repay that faith.”

Mohit Sharma questions GT’s Rahul Tewatia’s move; suggests two bold moves
Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Mohit Sharma felt that Anuj Rawat could have been a better option than Tewatia in that situation. He also noted that Glenn Phillips has failed to make an impact this season, scoring 67 runs in five innings.
Considering that, Jason Holder should be a good option for the Gujarat Titans. The former CSK star wants Holder to replace Phillips in the Gujarat Titans’ playing XI in their next match against RCB on April 24 in Bengaluru.
Mohit Sharma said during the same discussion: “I feel Anuj should have come in. There were 12 overs left at that stage. They will have to think about how they will use these things.”
He added: “They could have considered Jason Holder instead of Glenn Phillips. Glenn Phillips doesn’t seem to be in rhythm, and if you look at his records, he hasn’t played an impactful innings in any league so far. He plays well for New Zealand and hits a big six, but he wasted an opportunity here.”
