Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium witnessed complete shock for Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2025 clash on Wednesday, April 29. They gave their all but in the end, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ended up on the winning side after their incredible batting efforts in the packed stadium.
Ryan Rickelton made one of the best shots of the season. The left-hander smashed his first IPL century in just 44 balls and became the fastest player to score a hundred for Mumbai Indians. Will Jacks also played an attacking knock of 46 off 22 against SRH.
MI surprised by SRH in high-scoring thriller IPL 2026
Rickelton, who played a memorable unbeaten 123 off 55 balls, hitting 10 fours and 8 sixes, added 93 runs with Jacks to take Mumbai Indians to a huge total of 243 for 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It looked like MI had almost won the game before SRH pulled off the upset.

Travis Head was in his usual attacking mode and smashed 76 runs off just 30 balls, while Abhishek Sharma also played a quick knock of 45 off 24 balls. Their massive opening partnership of 129 runs in just 9.1 overs had already set the massive platform for SRH.
However, Hyderabad lost a couple of cheap wickets but Heinrich Klaasen played another spectacular knock of 65 not off 30 balls to help Salil Arora (30 runs off 10 balls) finish the job. SRH chased down the massive target of 244 runs in 18.4 overs with six wickets in hand against MI.
Mumbai Indians’ playoff hopes take a serious hit
This win has boosted SRH’s playoff chances as they jumped to third place in the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from 9 games. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are now struggling near the end and will need something special in their remaining matches to stay in the playoff race.
It was SRH’s fifth consecutive win in the current season and MI’s sixth loss. This win was very special for Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium as they have only managed to win three times at this venue so far. SRH’s previous wins came in 2018 and 2022 in Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians hit new low in IPL
On the other hand, it was a huge embarrassment for the five-time IPL champions. MI have lost four consecutive matches at the Wankhede Stadium for the first time in IPL history.

SRH’s hammering also brought another unwanted record for Hardik Pandya’s team. In their last match, Mumbai suffered their first defeat by a margin of over 100 against Chennai Super Kings, and have now lost the match at the Wankhede Stadium while defending over 200 runs.
It was MI’s only second defeat while defending 200 runs or more in the IPL, having previously suffered a loss against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad last year. They have an excellent record defending over 200 objectives, winning 19 of 21 games so far in the tournament.
Mumbai Indians’ biggest weapon Jasprit Bumrah has been going through a rough patch and conceded 54 runs in his quota of 4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With this spell, Bumrah recorded his third highest figure in IPL history.
