Hardik Pandya suspended? MI captain faces huge ban after loss to RCB

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been awarded a huge penalty following his team’s defeat at the Wankhede Stadium. He has been fined a huge amount for maintaining a slow overrating in the match against RCB.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first title in 2025, ending their long drought of 18 seasons. Having won their first title, the Rajat Patidar-led RCB team has made an impressive start to this IPL season.

After the match between RCB and MI ended in another defeat this season for Mumbai Indians, they were left in 8th position while RCB maintained their position at 3rd place with three wins and 6 points from four matches.

Hardik Pandya fined for slow overestimation in MI vs RCB game

Hardik Pandya is not having the best of seasons as captain of the Mumbai Indians team. He was unable to regulate his players as best they could as MI were thrashed for 240 runs in their 20 overs. Hardik himself bowled a better spell as he also picked the vital wicket of Virat Kohli.

The MI captain, however, has been fined for maintaining too slow a pace in the match against the Royal Challengers. This was the team’s first offense of the season and they were found guilty of breaching Article 2.22 of the IPL code of conduct. He has been fined a whopping amount of INR 12 lakhs as per the rules.

Mumbai Indians have been struggling with the ball as Jasprit Bumrah was left wicketless after four matches in IPL 2026. In this match too, Hardik Pandya was forced to rethink his approach as MI’s bowlers kept getting thrashed.

Hardik Pandya’s overall role with bat and ball for MI

Hardik Pandya once again took the new ball for Mumbai Indians. The captain led from the front and bowled some crucial overs as RCB batsmen demolished the attack at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

He picked Virat Kohli’s crucial wicket, breaking the second-wicket partnership between the veteran star and the RCB captain. Virat was dismissed for 50, while Hardik finished his spell with 39 runs and one wicket.

He came out to bat at no. 5, after the double wicket where MI lost both their left-handed batsmen, Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma. Pandya put together a 47-run partnership alongside Suryakumar Yadav and then scored 40 runs off just 22 balls before hitting a ball towards third man.

Tim David has been fined 25% of the amount of the match against MI

RCB’s star batsman Tim David played a very good knock and once again contributed significantly with the bat. He scored 34 runs, with a strike rate of over 200. David has been important for RCB in the death overs.

Tim David was also fined 25% of his match fees and also accrued a demerit point for violating Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. David has been found to have breached Article 2.4 of the IPL code of conduct. This is related to disobeying the referee’s instructions during a game.
