“I can confirm that I have made the difficult decision not to play in the upcoming IPL. I was very excited to be picked by Delhi Capitals and was looking forward to joining everyone. While I don’t think I should share my personal reasons behind this decision, I know there will be many asking why. That’s why I want to share this,” said the England national cricket team batsman.
“I lost my grandmother last month; She was a rock for me and I spent much of my childhood in her house; My attitude towards life and my love for cricket were shaped by her and my late grandfather. When she was home, hardly a day went by without seeing her. She makes me very happy that she has been able to see me play cricket for England. “I’m proud that she was able to pick up some of the awards I’ve won over the last few years when she couldn’t be there and I know she enjoyed doing it,” added Harry Brook.
Harry Brook further provided more details about his decision to stay away from cricket and thanked the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) for supporting him in these difficult times.
“I made the decision to abandon the test tour of India the night before I flew from Abu Dhabi to India because for the first time I was told that my grandmother was sick and didn’t have much time left to go out. Now that she has passed away, my family and I are grieving and I need to be close to them.
“In recent years I have learned to prioritize my mental well-being and that of my family, honestly nothing is more important to me than family. So while this may be surprising to some, I know it’s the right decision for me. “I am young and I hope to have many, many more years of cricket to come and I intend to make the most of them.”
