England crumble to Australia spinners: Nasser Hussain on Harry Brook’s England

The England national cricket team posted 309 runs on the board as they faced a collapse and were bowled out in 49.2 overs. Talking about this, former England captain Nasser Hussain said that the English batsmen failed miserably against the Australian spinners.

“England fell to Australia’s spinners,” Nasser Hussain said on Sky Sports. They started with a shuttlecock, the moment there was rhythm on the ball, the ball disappeared everywhere. But then it fell apart. The moment the spinners landed outside off stump, they changed their attack and Steve Smith changed his attack. England will think it should have been more than 350.”

Nasser Hussain also opined that Harry Brook & Co. opened the door for Australia to make progress as they became too aggressive with the bat. He elaborated:

“I don’t think they should have tried harder, but I understand why they did it. “We in the commentary box were saying this is a tough place to bowl.

“Probably what you didn’t adapt was that once they started seeing it spin, 50 overs becomes a long time, we need to partner. England have opened the door for Australia.”

Nasser Hussain also criticized Australia’s tactic of introducing Mitchell Starc even though the spinners did a good job in the match. He said:

“Starc was the wrong choice. The discrepancy between active and slow pace today is worlds apart. Spin was at less than seven. England were 8-107. The brain has been trained for a decade (so that Starc would work again), but I would have kept the effect.”
