Each franchise must announce its player retention list by October 31.
The retention deadline for the upcoming auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) is approaching as the anticipation around it grows even more. Each franchise must announce its player retention list by October 31.
However, a star Indian pacer recently revealed that he is not sure about his retention chances as the franchise has not communicated anything clearly.
Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Mohammed Shami, one of the best bowlers in the country, spoke candidly about not having heard anything from the team management regarding retention.
Along the same lines, Mohammed Shami told SportsTak:
“I don’t know anything about this. The decision rests firmly with the franchise. If they feel the need to keep me, they will. Otherwise, they won’t do it.”
“I haven’t talked to them until now, but if they give me the option, who will turn it down?” he added.
GT is likely to be unsure of Shami’s return from his injury and hence is yet to decide on the pacer’s future.
When will Mohammed Shami return from his injury?
Shami was forced to stay on the sidelines due to an ankle injury and subsequent surgery after last year’s ODI World Cup. The 34-year-old then missed the IPL 2024 season and the T20 World Cup 2024, earlier this year.
Talking about Shami’s return, he was initially expected to return during the ongoing series between India and New Zealand but could not due to his rehabilitation.
The right-arm pacer now has his sights set on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year for his comeback.
