England pacer Ollie Robinson has issued a warning for hitting Virat Kohli ahead of the five-match Test series against India. He said that he wants to get the right-hander out in the games as the batsman wants to dominate in Indian conditions.
Ollie Robinson will head to India with the England equipment for the test series. He will be one of the main players on the team. Without Stuart Broad, the fast bowler will be key for the team along with veteran James Anderson.
One of the interesting battles to watch out for in the series will be between Ollie Robinson and Virat Kohli. The last time India and England played each other, the duo had a verbal spat and there was a lot of chirping.
Ollie Robinson had an advantage over Virat Kohli. He got the batsman out three times during the 2021 Test series in England, which ended in a draw. The pacer picked 21 wickets at 9.33pm in the first four matches and bothered the Indian batsmen a lot.
While talking about the upcoming tour of India, Ollie Robinson said that it will be a big challenge for him and he wants to adapt. He hopes to utilize his cricketing brain in the series. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he stated:
“You feel like you don’t know what you’re preparing for, which is a challenge I haven’t had yet. This tour will be about being adaptable; Look at the course a day or two beforehand and assess how it will play, or try to get clues from the nets on the course. “It will be a different challenge but I am looking forward to it because it will engage my cricket brain.”
Ollie Robinson further added that he is trying to make his seam position as accurate as Mohammed Shami’s. He revealed that he also learned a lot from Ishant Sharma during his spell in Sussex County. He elaborated:
“In fact, I have been practicing Mohammed Shami’s totally straight seam. He is one of the best Indian bowlers. He was looking at Ishant [Sharma] Also, he played for Sussex for a while and did very well in India for quite some time. He is tall, similar to me.”
You always want to play against the best players, right? Ollie Robinson on playing against Virat Kohli
Ollie Robinson spoke more about his battle with Virat Kohli during the 2021 series. He said that when the Indian batsman came to bat he said something to him. He narrated:
“I actually saw the video of me going out to bat at Lord’s a couple of days ago. Believe [Mohammed] Siraj bowled the ball which reached length and hit me on the chest. And in the video, all the Indian players surround me and Kohli says… well, I don’t remember what he said.”
While talking about Virat Kohli, Ollie Robinson believes that the Indian batsman has a big ego and the battle against him will be exciting. He also believes that if he tours India well, he will be able to cement his place in the Indian team. He added:
“You always want to play against the best players, right? And you always want to get the best players out. Kohli is one of those. He has a big ego and I think playing with that, especially in India where he will want to dominate and score runs, playing with the fact that we have had battles in the past, is exciting. If I can do a big tour in India, then I should prepare for a while. If I do well, I can consolidate myself again in the team.”
The series between India and England will begin from January 25. It will be a month-long series and will end in March.
