“He’s pretty unflappable” – Matthew Hayden remembers CSK days; Pick Michael Hussey over MS Dhoni as best sprinter

Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden recalled his days in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He spoke about what irritates MS Dhoni and also named the best sledger.

Without a doubt, MS Dhoni has been one of the best skippers in the history of the IPL. What has caught the attention of many was how he brings out the best in his players even when they are not having a great time with bat and ball.

Over the years, many stalwarts have played for CSK and one of them was Australian Matthew Hayden. The former Australian opener played two seasons in IPL for Chennai Super Kings and played some amazing knocks for the team with his special mongoose bat.

He was a totally different character on the field. Apart from his heroics with the bat, he was an exceptional performer on the field. During a candid conversation with ESPNCricinfo, he was asked about CSK captain MS Dhoni.

Matthew Hayden revealed that doing nothing on the field is what irritates MS Dhoni the most. Speaking about the same, he explained:

“MS Dhoni is pretty unflappable, it has to be said, but if you really want to give him the chills. Just make a lazy fielding effort. Don’t contribute on the field and that’s one of the few times you look at it and say ‘ooh, that’s not going to be good.’

Matthew Hayden was also asked who would win a 100m race between the excellent MS Dhoni and the excellent Mike Hussey. Responding to this, he did not hesitate and named his former Australian teammate.

Matthew Hayden also picked Harbhajan Singh as the most entertaining sledger he played with or against. He said: “I always loved the battle with Harbhajan Singh, it was a beauty.”

Matthew Hayden played 32 matches in IPL and scored 1107 runs. He also scored 8 half-centuries in the league.
