UP Warriorz suffer massive blow in WPL 2024


He Women’s Premier League (WPL) The UP Warriorz team has suffered a huge blow as young batsman Vrinda Dinesh has been ruled out of the entire competition after suffering an injury.

UP Warriorz have performed quite well in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 and has won 2 of 4 games. With 4 points in their bag, the Warriorz are placed 3rd in the points table, behind Delhi Capitals Women and Mumbai Indians Women.

The Alyssa Healy-led team is currently facing Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in the 11th match of WPL 2024 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Just before the start of the match, it was announced that UP Warriorz would miss the services of Vrinda Dinesh for the rest of the season, as she was ruled out of the competition after suffering a shoulder injury during Match 6 (February 28) . at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru against Mumbai Indians.

Uma Chetry named Vrinda Dinesh’s replacement in UP Warriorz for WPL 2024

To replace Vrinda Dinesh, UP Warriorz have signed batsman-wicketkeeper Uma Chetry for INR 10 lakh. She was recently seen in action for India A against England A and she was also part of the India A Emerging team that won the ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023.

“The UP Warriorz have roped in batsman Uma Chetry as a replacement at her reserve price of INR 10 lakhs. Uma recently played for India A against England A and was also part of the victorious India A Emerging team that won the ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023,” reads the official press release.

Talking about Vrinda, she was bought for a whopping Rs 1.3 million in the WPL 2024 auction, making her one of the most expensive uncapped players ever. She played 3 league matches against RCB Women, DC Women and MI Women and managed to score only 18 runs.

Vrinda had a great run for Karnataka in the 2023 senior women’s one-day competition as she finished as the third-best runner in the tournament. The young batsman scored 477 runs in 11 innings.

Coming back to UP Warriorz vs RCB Women, Warriorz won the toss and opted to bowl. The decision has not turned out so well for the team as Royal Challengers Bangalore Women have scored 88 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 11 overs at the time of writing this report.

Speaking before the match, UP Warriorz star Chamari Athapaththu, considered one of the best cricketers in the world, spoke about the difference between the WPL and the WBBL. She said both tournaments have different vibes and conditions and the WPL offers an atmosphere closer to Sri Lanka.
