He was candid and spoke about his loyalties to IPL.

Former India and IPL star Robin Uthappa has created a furore with his recent comments on Faye D’Souza’s podcast regarding his move to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from Mumbai Indians (MI). Uthappa made a shocking revelation in which he spoke about not feeling like he “belonged” to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise.

Although Uthappa only played one season for MI, the inaugural edition of the 2008 IPL, he revealed that his allegiance still remains with the Blue and Gold.

Uthappa was released by Mumbai ahead of the 2009 season and was transferred to RCB, where he played for two seasons in 2009 and 2010 and also contributed some key knocks for the franchise.

Robin Uthappa explained that the cricketers found it difficult to show their loyalty because it was their first experience with such transfers.

Uthappa said in the podcast: “At no point did I feel like I belonged in RCB. All my loyalties were with the Mumbai Indians. And for me, since it was the first time that we Indians were playing professional cricket, we didn’t know what it was like to move from one club to another, we didn’t know what transfers were outside of what we heard about the EPL.”

He also mentioned telling the Mumbai Indians manager that he wanted to stay with the franchise out of loyalty. However, when the coach could not secure him a place in the playing eleven, Uthappa had to reconsider his decision.

“He said, if you don’t leave, I can’t guarantee that you will play any match for Mumbai. And that was when I felt good, they don’t love me at all,” he added.
