ICC Rankings: Joe Root tops Test rankings; Yashasvi Jaiswal and other India stars move up after impressing against Sri Lanka

Several Indian stars have gained a lot in the latest ICC rankings after impressing in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Joe Root has claimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test batsmen rankings.

Team India swept the series and started the journey under new captain Suryakumar Yadav on a perfect note. The Men in Blue won the first game by 43 runs before winning the second game by 7 wickets (DLS method). The third game was tied before India won the Super Over to secure a thrilling win over the hosts.

Several Indian players impressed with bat and ball during the series and were rewarded with a big jump in the ICC T20I rankings. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 80 runs in three games, jumped two places to fourth, while Shubman Gill moved up 16 places to 21st after scoring 73 runs.

Among the bowlers, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has returned to the top ten of the ICC rankings for T20I bowlers. He has moved up eight places to occupy the 10th spot after taking 6 wickets in the series. The other Indian bowlers who have moved up in the rankings are Arshdeep Singh (up four places to 19th), Washington Sundar (up six places to 40th) and Mohammed Siraj (up 37 places to 47th).

From Sri Lanka, fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who took 5 wickets in two innings, has moved up 13 places to equal 77th position. Among the all-rounders, Australian star Marcus Stoinis has moved up to the top of the rankings, replacing Wanindu Hasaranga. The former Sri Lanka captain has dropped two places after struggling to impress against India.

ICC Rankings for Test Batsmen and Bowlers:

Joe Root has ended Kane Williamson’s reign as Test number one batsman after an impressive performance in the three-match series against West Indies. The former England captain finished the series as the leading run-scorer, scoring 291 runs with the help of a century and two half-centuries.

Williamson has dropped to second place and is followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam (third), New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (third), Australia’s Steve Smith (fifth) and India’s Rohit Sharma (sixth).

Among the bowlers, England captain Ben Stokes has moved up four places to 30th after taking five wickets. The other England bowlers who have moved up the rankings are Mark Wood (up six places to 20th) and Gus Atkinson (up four places to 46th).
