South African pacer Kagiso Rabada made a bold comment ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. He said that the Proteas team will have an advantage in the tournament due to their experience on Indian surfaces due to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The South African cricket team is enjoying their time away from cricket. They have no cricket lined up until August and will soon be seen in action against Australia. They will have ample time to prepare for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, which will take place in India between October and November.

South Africa are yet to win any ICC events and this time they are hoping to break the shackles and win the 2023 ICC World Cup. Kagiso Rabada is quite experienced in Indian conditions due to his stint with IPL teams. The lanky pacer has so far played 89 ODIs and has taken 137 wickets. He has rocked the batting lineups of many oppositions and it is safe to say that he will be the threatening force in the event.

Kagiso Rabada, while admitting that playing in India as a fast bowler is difficult, said that reading the conditions and executing his plans is something he is working on. Speaking to IOL, he said:

“Playing in India is really tough as a fast bowler on some of those pitches. I guess the challenge now, at my age, is to know (and understand) the basic information that a novice wouldn’t know. You are always learning and always looking to be as effective as possible in different fields.

“It’s about reading (the court) better and that’s in combination with the goals you set. Those two go hand in hand: reading the conditions and executing your abilities. It sounds very nonchalant and easy to say, but it is a very rigorous and difficult process. That is the process I am currently involved in. that’s where i am.”

Kagiso Rabada went on to say that South Africa will be one of the favorites for the World Cup because they have played in IPL for many years and are used to the conditions. He explained:

“Going to the World Cup in India, I think we have an advantage because we have played in the IPL for so many years. We have played on most courses, if not all, so we understand those conditions.”

South Africa’s place for direct qualification in the 2023 Cricket World Cup was in jeopardy. But they displayed an exciting style of cricket against England and the Netherlands to earn their place in the tournament.
