Indian skipper Rohit Sharma praised the young opening batsman Shubman Gill, calling him the next big thing for Indian cricket. Rohit Sharma said that Gill had the potential to be a successful batsman in all formats at international level.

Shubman Gill is currently part of the Indian team, which is currently facing Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the London Oval. Gill will open the tickets for India along with Rohit Sharma in his second ICC final in the longest game format.

I hope he continues his hot streak – Rohit Sharma

In a video shared on the official ICC Twitter account, Rohit Sharma hoped Shubman Gill would continue his form with the bat in the crucial Test match against Australia.

“Shubman Gill has a lot of potential. Without a doubt in my mind, he is the next big thing for Indian cricket. He has what it takes to be successful at this level. I just hope he continues his good run of form.” Rohit told the ICC.

Shubman Gill has achieved multiple records in international cricket in the past two months. The right-handed batsman became the fifth player to have at least a century in all three formats of international cricket. He was the youngest batsman to score a double century in the 50+ format.

Their legacies are immortal – Shubman Gill

Earlier in an interview with ANI, Shubman Gill spoke about the comparisons to Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and said they inspired many people to embrace cricket as a profession.

“The generation that all these people, Sachin sir (Tendulkar) sir, Virat (Kohli) bhai, Rohit Sharma, have inspired is beyond,” Shubman Gill told ANI.

“If we hadn’t won the 1983 World Cup, would there have been a Sachin Tendulkar? No. If we hadn’t won the 2011 World Cup, would he be so inspired? Maybe, maybe not. His legacies are immortal, you can’t really define them.” added.

The 23-year-old made his international debut against New Zealand in an ODI match in 2019. The Gujarat Titans opener represented India in 15 tests, 24 ODIs and 6 T20Is, respectively. He scored 890, 1,311 and 202 runs in the three formats, respectively.
