Former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar in his recent interview with Lallantop spoke about his playing days in the IPL and how he was forced to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He shared some deep secrets from the early years of the Indian Premier League and broke some stereotypes of the cash-rich league. Kumar played for RCB for the first three years of the IPL.

In the interview with Lallantop, he recalled how he was threatened by former IPL president Latil Modi. He also spoke about how he was forced to sign the contract documents with RCB without his knowledge.

“I didn’t want to play for RCB because Bengaluru was quite far from my house, I didn’t know English and the food wasn’t to my liking. Delhi is quite close to Meerut, which would have allowed me to travel home from time to time. However, there was one person who made me sign a paper. I didn’t know what the contract was. I told them I wanted to play for Delhi and not Bengaluru. Lalit Modi called me and threatened to end my career,” Kumar told Lallantop.

The former Indian pacer then spoke about the ugly dispute between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir that occurred in IPL 2023. The two clashed and the video instantly went viral on social media. Meanwhile, Kumar has a very different view on the matter.

Elder brother can scold younger brother: Praveen Kumar on Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir feud

He addressed Gambhir as his elder brother and said that elder brother can scold his younger brother in Virat Kohli.

“Great boy. He knows how to score runs. That’s why he has reached such heights. Work on his body, proper diet – He knows it well. He is my younger brother,” Praveen said about Kohli.

“He is older. He is my elder brother,” he said about Gambhir.

“It doesn’t matter if the older brother scolds the younger brother. “He is older and can scold him.” Praveen said.

Talking about Virat Kohli, he was called up to the Indian T20I team for the Afghanistan series. Rohit Sharma has also been called up and will lead the team in the three-match series. The duo returns to the Indian T20I team for the first time since the 2022 T20 World Cup last year. Kohli scored the most runs in the T20 World Cup 2022 and ICC World Cup 2023 (765).

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta said that the return of Kohli and Rohit to the Indian T20I team for the Afghanistan series has brought India back to square one. Players like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are not available for the series due to injury issues.

“To be honest, I don’t find any direction for India in the last one year. “If they were to go back to Kohli and Rohit… given the teams we had in the last year, it would be like going back to square one.” he said on Star Sports.

Praveen Kumar retired from international cricket in 2018 after failing to sell at the IPL auction. He still plays in retired cricketers’ T20 leagues. Kumar was part of the Manipal Tigers in the 2023 edition of Legends League Cricket recently.
