IND vs PAK: Babar Azam becomes the worst captain in cricket history by achieving this unwanted record

Pakistan captain Babar Azam recorded a forgettable record after his team’s loss to the United States in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He became the first international cricket captain to lose against four weaker teams in international cricket .

Pakistan lost to the United States in their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which can be considered the biggest turnaround of the tournament. Pakistan could not defend the target of 160 runs against the United States in the match, with the latter eventually winning the clash in the super over.

Pakistan, who batted first, failed to put up a powerful total against co-hosts United States. Babar Azam with his 44 and Shadab Khan with his 40 runs were the only ones who managed decent knocks as none of the batsmen managed to hit even fifty.

Chasing 159, the American batsmen attacked from the front with opener Monank Patel adding 50 off 38. Later, Andries Gous and Aaron Jones scored 35 and 36 to help the team tie the game. In the end, the United States surpassed Pakistan in script history.

Babar Azam becomes the first captain to lose against USA, ZIM, AFG and IRE

Every big upset in cricket also creates many unwanted records. Babar Azam reached that record after his team’s loss to Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He became the first captain to lose matches against Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Ireland and the United States in international cricket.

Notably, Pakistan lost to Afghanistan in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year. Previously, they also lost to Zimbabwe in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. During a recent tour to Ireland last month, Pakistan lost a T20I match. In all these matches, Babar Azam was the captain of Pakistan.

Interestingly, Babar Azam resigned as skipper after Pakistan’s poor performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year, where they lost to Afghanistan for the first time in an ODI. The board also appointed a new skipper Shaheen Afridi in the T20Is and Shan Masood in the Tests.

However, after Pakistan’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to New Zealand with Afridi and no other strong option for ODI captain, Babar was reinstated as the team’s captain in white-ball formats.

Pakistan will face India in their next match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Meanwhile, Pakistan needs to improve its performance in the upcoming games of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan is a member of Group A of the tournament with India, United States, Canada and Ireland. All of these teams will meet once during the league phase. The top two teams in the points table will advance to the next round. However, the United States has already defeated Canada and Pakistan. If they also hinder Ireland and Pakistan fail to defeat India in the next match, the United States will have a better chance of finishing in the top two.

Pakistan will face India on June 9, Canada on June 11 and Ireland on June 16. Currently, the United States is in first place in the Group A points table with 4 points. India follows them with 2 points with a victory against Ireland in their first match.
