It was a disappointing defeat for India in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup as they lost to Australia by six wickets in front of over 90,000 Indian fans. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and batsman Virat Kohli, who were probably playing the last ODI World Cup of their international career, failed to add the ODI World Cup 2023 trophy to their cabinet.

Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who was also named Player of the Tournament, scored 765 runs in the entire tournament in 11 games. Virat scored three centuries and six half-centuries and was one of the main architects of India’s ruthless campaign throughout the tournament.

Team India won ten games in a row heading into the final against Australia, but fell just one win away from equaling Australia’s massive record of 11 wins in an ODI World Cup.

Apart from the Indian team fans, many Indian players including Mohammed Siraj, Rohit Sharma and many other players were seen crying after the heartbreaking final loss against Australia. Virat Kohli was also one of the players who felt disappointed after the defeat, but he was not seen crying after the defeat.

However, Virat Kohli’s sadness was clearly visible on his face, and a video of him removing the bails from the stumps after the match went viral on social media. While the entire Australian team was joyful and celebrating after the victory, a helpless Kohli was removing the handles from the stumps.

The Indian cricket team was ruthless throughout the ODI World Cup 2023 and defeated teams by completely decimating them in every match. In almost every match, different players from the Indian team won the Man of the Match award following India’s victory.

Virat Kohli won the award twice and also completed his 50th ODI hundreds in the tournament. Kohli became the first player to achieve the record. Kohli achieved the feat in the semi-final match against New Zealand in front of his idol and ‘god of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record and equaled it against South Africa at the Eden Gardens.

Virat Kohli played a decent knock of 38 and 75 runs during the first Test match against South Africa and showed the brilliance of his form. However, his performance was not enough for the Indian team to win the Centurion Test against the Proteas and they lost the match by an innings and 32 runs.

Now, when India takes on South Africa in the New Year’s Test at the Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town, Virat Kohli would like to start the new year with a century.

Virat Kohli was the second highest run-scorer of the year 2023 and scored 2054 runs in 35 matches. Virat has scored 8 centuries, the most of any batsman in the year. Virat made a fantastic return to international cricket and has once again started scoring hundreds in all formats.
