IND vs WI: “Fast Bowling Unit Is Light”- Aakash Chopra On India’s Bowling Unit For West Indies T20Is

Former Indian starter Aakash Chopra has given his suggestions on India’s T20I squad that has been announced for the five-match series against West Indies. The team was announced on July 5 and had some interesting inclusions and omissions.

The omission of Rinku Singh became a hot topic of discussion after the team was announced. The selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar named players like Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the five match series. Names like Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad were passed over from the squad while Sanju Samson returned to the T20I squad.

Indian bowling was the main focal point with Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan making up the four-man pace attack. Barring Arshdeep Singh, the inclusion of the rest of the three is questionable given that they have not played much cricket in the past.

Aakash Chopra in his recent Youtube video talked about the overall team pick and in particular more about the named seam attack. He said that Arshdeep Singh was an expected selection, but expressed doubts about the other bowlers in the team. Chopra’s general observation of the seam bowling attack was that they were dealing with a weak group of bowlers.

Fast bowling unit is weak: Aakahs Chopra

“The fast bowling unit looks light. Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar – these are the fast bowlers of India. If we go one by one, Arshdeep Singh should not be a point of contention, he has been absolutely outstanding, he is gold dust”.

At Arshdeep, Chopra said the youngster had a tough IPL 2023 but was not used effectively by the Punjab Kings.

“However, the Punjab Kings halved his height. They failed to get me to bowl where I should have. I feel like they sidelined him a bit. An outstanding player who had more ability to do well but you didn’t let him see his potential because you took the new ball from him.” Chopra said in Arshdeep.

Umran Malik is an interesting selection: Aakash Chopra

On Umran Malik, he said that he was an interesting selection and blamed his IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad for not using him properly in the tournament.

“Umran Malik: another very interesting choice because you can say it was the same story with him. Slightly worse than Hyderabad didn’t use it at all and when they did they didn’t use it properly. It was extremely expensive when they played it at the end. But Umran Malik in the intermissions is not a bad option ” Chopra said.

Chopra feels Avesh Khan’s career is on the decline and Mukesh Kumar would be a better Test bowler than in the cue ball format.
