After the Indian squad for the West Indies series was announced, quite a few red flags were raised. Many lashed out at the governing body for its bad decisions and, in particular, for the non-selection of Sarfaraz Khan.
The omission of Sarfaraz Khan was one of the biggest talking points. The batsman averages around 80 in Tests and has been one of the best batsmen in FC cricket. The non-selection of him was even criticized by Sunil Gavaskar, who lashed out at the governing body, saying what is the fun of playing on the domestic circuit if selection in the Tests is based on IPL performances.

“The angry reactions are understandable, but I can tell you with some degree of certainty that the reason Sarfaraz is ignored time and time again is not just because he plays cricket. There are multiple reasons why he has not been considered. Are selectors foolish not to consider a player who has scored more than 900 runs in successive seasons?

“One of the reasons is his physical condition, which is not exactly at the international level. He has to work hard, maybe lose weight and come back leaner and fitter, since hitting aptitude isn’t the only criteria for selection. His conduct on and off the field has not been exactly top-notch. Certain things have been said, certain gestures have been made, and some incidents have been noted.”

IND vs WI: ‘A bit more disciplined approach would only do you so much good’, BCCI official on Sarfaraz Khan
The BCCI official went on to stress that a disciplined approach from Sarfaraz Khan will strengthen his case. He lashed out at the critics of the IPL selection, saying why would the selectors not consider the player who has scored more than 900 runs in two seasons. Explaining further, he said:
“A little more disciplined approach would only do him so much good. Hopefully Sarfaraz along with his father and coach Naushad Khan will work on those aspects. When Mayank Agarwal broke into India
Test team, scored 1000 first-class runs in one month. Did the MSK Prasad committee check your IPL credentials? The same goes for Hanuma Vihari, who came through the national and A-team ranks.
“If his IPL and cue ball record was not verified then why would SS Das committee reinvent the wheel now? Simple. The reason is not just a cricket. Just think about it. Why wasn’t Sarfaraz even among the reserves for the World Test Championship? Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jasiwal were the two reserves after Ruturaj withdrew due to his marriage.”
West Indies is set to host India for the two Test series in July. The first game will be played. from July 12 while the second match is scheduled to take place from July 20. The Test series will kick off the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship for both teams.
