Pacer Mukesh Kumar spoke about his meeting with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-arm bowler was signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the mini-auction.
Kumar revealed the question he asked Dhoni during the IPL season in an interview with the Times of India: “I always wanted to meet Dhoni bhaiya and ask him a couple of things. This happened because of the IPL. I met him and the first thing I asked him was: ‘ek captain aur wicketkeeper hote hue aap apne bowlers ko kya batate ho’ (What exactly do you say to your bowlers as captain and wicketkeeper?)” Mukesh Kumar said.
“He put his hands around my shoulders and said: ‘I tell this to every bowler that until you don’t try, you won’t learn. He said you have to do exactly what you want to do. If you don’t, you won’t learn. He said to forget the result and just go and try. He explained this to me very well ”, added Mukesh Kumar.

Mukesh net bowled for DC the previous season and received an offer of Rs 5.5 crore to compete in the league for the first time. In his first season, he made 10 appearances and took seven wickets at an economy of 10.52.
