Following India’s loss to Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his desire for a three match series to determine the ultimate winner. However, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has a different opinion, suggesting that there should be only one final for the prestigious tournament.
In the highly anticipated WTC final, Australia emerged victorious over India, claiming their first World Test Championship title with a dominating performance led by captain Pat Cummins. Australia recorded an impressive total of 469 runs after being brought up to bat first. India, in response, hit 296 runs, conceding a 173-run first innings lead.

Australia then declared their second innings at 270 for 8, setting a challenging target of 444 runs for India to chase. However, the Indian team could only muster 234 runs, falling 209 runs short to give Australia the title.

After the match, Rohit Sharma proposed the idea of a three-match series for future editions of the WTC. “I would like to play the 3-round match series for the WTC final. We work hard and we fight, but we only played one game. I think a three match series would be ideal in the next WTC cycle,” Rohit said during the post-match press conference.

I don’t think there should be a best-of-three final: Harbhajan Singh
However, former Indian star Harbhajan Singh presented an opposite point of view. Expressing his thoughts on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan Singh responded to Rohit’s proposal, stating:
“I don’t think there should be best-of-three finals. It is not seen at any of the major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup, tennis Grand Slams, and even cricket. When it comes to the ODI World Cup, there won’t be three finals. I think the concept of three endings will lead us in the wrong direction. Instead, there should be only one final, where both teams prepare well for the summit clash.”

Harbhajan Singh emphasized his belief in the importance of a single final, aligning himself with the prevailing rules in major sporting events.
