Top ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav has struggled to maintain his strong performance in the 50+ format. Suryakumar Yadav has played 23 one day internationals but has only managed to score two half centuries at an average of 24.05. ; he has yet to reach the century mark in this format.

While this is worrisome, it’s also vital to remember that since debuting in this format in 2021, he hasn’t played many games. It is only a matter of time before he transfers his success in the game’s shortest format to over-50 cricket, given his current form and confidence. It is only a matter of time before he meets the squad because they have placed their trust in him.
Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo in a three-part series on India’s roadmap to the 2023 ODI World Cup: “If you want to use Suryakumar Yadav, use him more as an explosive and lower order hitter. I don’t know what’s the reason for his failures, but eventually, if you keep giving him chances, he’ll be able to find that team. I don’t think Suryakumar Yadav has only one gear, we have seen him do a lot of ground shots so he has all the gears.”

“But if India wants to use him as a lower level batsman, I wonder how many times he will need that kind of explosive batting in 50 Overs cricket?” Sanjay Manjrekar added.

“I am going to look at Suryakumar Yadav rather than just his recent form” – Sanjay Manjrekar
Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar anticipated that Suryakumar Yadav’s odd ODI performance would not interfere with his outstanding career in the shorter format.
The 32-year-old has otherworldly T20I stats, scoring three hundred and averaging 46.52 on a 175.76 strike rate in 48 games. Surya delivered an outstanding performance at the T20I World Cup last year, scoring 239 runs at an average of 59.75 and a strike rate of 189.68.
“The thing about Suryakumar Yadav is that he is a great T20 batsman, you don’t want to do anything that might derail him in T20 cricket, where he is achieving batting excellence, like a batsman of the future.
“And we saw after those ducks he got, the first ball ducks, it took him a while to get into T20 shape as well. This is how I am going to view Suryakumar Yadav, beyond his recent form and whether he deserves to be a part of the Indian 50+ team.” Sanjay Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.
