Indian skipper Rohit Sharma justified the selection of Yashasvi Jaiswal for the IND vs WI Test series as he gave more than one reason for his inclusion in the squad. The first Test will be played in Dominica from July 12-16, as it kicks off the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle for both teams.
India named a 16-member Test squad for the two-match series with Jaiswal and Rururaj Gaikwad among the new faces. Both the players have impressed in IPL 2023 scoring many runs for their respective teams.

Rohit talked about the selection for the Test series and also about the importance of Yashasvi Jaiswal in this India batting lineup.
“There are a couple of guys that have been lost. Unfortunately, you can only choose 15-16 players in the team. But everyone’s time will come. That’s what I mean”, Rohit told reporters on Tuesday.

“Indian cricket desperately needed a left-hander and we found a very good player in Jaiswal. He looks very promising. Ditto Ruturaj and Gill. Gill has obviously been playing good cricket for a year now and I expect him to continue his good form.” added.
This Indian Test squad has three young players who can open the innings Rohit Sharma in Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill. The Indian skipper spoke highly of Ruturaj’s talent and said that his opportunity will come.
“Ruturaj has all the potential to succeed in red ball cricket. He has shown us in T20 cricket what he can do. It’s time for him, I’m sure he too is looking forward to getting more races for the Indian team. It’s pretty exciting when you have guys like these coming on the team. He is good for the Indian team”, Rohit said.
Rohit concluded by confirming India’s opening combination for the first Test match in Dominica. He confirmed that Jaiswal will make his Test debut and open the innings with him, while Gil will bat at number three.

Shubman Gill to hit all three: Rohit Sharma
“As far as batting positions go, Gill will hit at No. 3 like he wanted to do on the spot. He discussed with Rahul bhai that he has played all his cricket at No. 3 and No. 4 and can contribute better for the team from No. 3. For us, it is also better as we have a left-combination. right. This is what we are trying and hopefully this becomes something long term as we have been desperate for a southpaw. Let’s hope he performs really well and makes that spot his own.” Rohit concluded by saying.
