Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has pointed out a glaring problem that Indian batsmen need to fix in the long run in Test cricket. India lost to Australia by 209 runs in the end of the world trade center. Chasing 444 to win in the fourth innings, India were bowled out for 234 runs with a batting collapse in the first session of fay 5.
India lost seven wickets for 70 runs on day five as neither batsman could withstand the onslaught of the Australian bowlers. India was largely out of the game from day 1 in the WTC final and was gradually overtaken by Australia.

Parhiv Patel in a tweet said that Indian batsmen need to apply themselves and bat for more hours when playing abroad. The problem appears to have arisen from the fact that Test matches in India are largely over within three days and therefore batsmen are unable to bat for many hours.

The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane scored over 40 but were unable to turn them into hundreds, which India needed to win the final. Rahane looked the safest of all the Indian batsmen in English conditions with scores of 89 and 46. However, in both innings, he went down at the wrong time.
Patel further said in his tweet that Indian batsmen are not used to batting for longer hours of late, which cost India in the final.

We need our hitters to spend long hours at the crease: Parthiv Patel
“We need our hitters to get used to spending long hours at the crease. And that is what was missing in this final. What’s up?” asked the former goalkeeper.
Earlier, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about not having enough time for his WTC final preparations. He talked about having at least two weeks to prepare for a big game like this.
