Former Indian chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar has revealed the advice he gave to the young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal before he left for the West Indies for the two-match Test series. Dilip Vengsarkar said that he advised Yashasvi Jaiswal to make the most of the opportunity.
Dilip Vengsarkar shared a special moment with Yashasvi Jaiswal before the talented youngster left for the West Indies tour. Vengsarkar offered the 21-year-old some valuable advice ahead of his potential Test debut. Jaiswal played cricket at the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Dilip Vengsarkar said he advised Yashasvi Jaiswal to seize the opportunity and be consistent at the highest level of cricket.
“I reminded him of the importance of the opportunity and told him that he should not let it pass, but grab it with both hands.” Vengsarkar told the Telegraph.

“I also told him to be consistent as at this level consistency matters. There has to be resolute devotion… Work hard and focus and then things will fall into place.” added.
The left-handed batsman made his international debut during the first Test against the West Indies in Dominica. The lefty scored 171 runs off 387 balls with the help of 16 caps and a six. He was awarded Man of the Match for his outstanding hitting in India’s first innings.

The Rohit Sharma-led team beat the Kraigg Brathwaite-led team by one innings and 141 runs in the first Test of the series. The visitors will take on the Windies in the second and final Test in Trinidad, starting on Thursday 20 July.
