Former Indian starter Virender Sehwag has questioned the Indian cricket team’s decision to leave Ravichandran Ashwin out of the playing XI for the final of the WTC 2023 between India and Australia.
While Ashwin is undeniably one of India’s best spin bowlers, it’s crucial to note that the decision to leave him out of the playing XI was taken after significant discussion by the team’s management.

Many fans and cricket pundits were puzzled by the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. An excellent spinner with a lot of experience, Ravichandran Ashwin was expected to be an important player for India in the crucial game.

The Indian side used a bowling attack with four-one speed and spin, with Ravindra Jadeja serving as the sole bowler in the final. The Australians defeated India by 209 runs, becoming the first team in history to win all ICC titles.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has stated that the country needs to improve its thinking and approach to win championships. After the game, Sehwag took to Twitter to comment that India had lost the game in his thoughts when they opted to eliminate Ravichandran Ashwin and that they needed a better strategy to win championships. India had lost the WTC final for the second time in a row.
“Congratulations to Australia on winning the WTC final. They are the deserved winners. India lost their minds when they decided to shut out Ravichandran Ashwin against a heavy left-hand attack. Also, the higher order needed to hit better. I need to have a better mindset and focus to win championships.” Sehwag posted on Twitter.

India lost seven wickets in the opening session on the 5th and fell by 209 runs to Australia in the 2023 WTC final.
