Wasim Jaffer on Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane has received much praise for the way she batted in both innings of the WTC final. He was India’s only positive with the bat in a disappointing performance by Indian batsmen.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 and 46 in the two innings and both innings came when India was under pressure. The Indian top order did not make too many major contributions, but they weathered the storm of Australian bowlers.

Raane returned to the Indian Test team for the first time in 18 months. He played his last test against South Africa before being called up for the WTC final with KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant injured. He scored loads of runs in domestic cricket for Mumbai and impressed selectors with his performance for CSK in IPL 2023 as well.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer said that Rahane looks like a different player when playing attacking cricket.

“When Ajinkya Rahane plays attacking and positive cricket, he is a different player. I just hope he plays and stays consistent from here on out.” Jaffer said.

“The way he hit both innings and soaked up the pressure. India was under pressure in both innings as she came out to bat. India was chasing a big score in the first innings and it was the same story in the second innings. He has shown that he can absorb that pressure.” Jaffer concluded by saying.
