Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar urged the BCCI to look for new players and include them in the upcoming tour to the West Indies. India will tour the West Indies for a full series in July and the former Indian batsman believes this is the right time to experiment with the players.
Sources close to the BCCI earlier said that the Indian team management is willing to give the senior players another chance in the series against the West Indies despite the wtc debacle. They are likely to retain Rohit Sharma as captain alongside veteran players like Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Chetwahwar Pujara.

“The game changers for Australia in the WTC final, Steve Smith and Travis Head, don’t play much T20 cricket. So we have to find guys who are not fatigued or have to make adjustments from IPL to Test cricket. It is about time we start rewarding the lads who are doing well in first-class cricket. And he doesn’t just run. Selectors could look for players who have it in them to be future test players and succeed in foreign conditions. I’d like to see at least three new hitters come into the picture and new fast pitchers.” Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.

He further said that management should not only focus on numbers but also look carefully at the national structure to find potential batsmen who can play Test cricket.

The domestic structure must be watched closely: Sanjay Manjrekar
“When it comes to batting, they only have to look at the top-class players and not just the number of runs the player has scored. if you look closely at our domestic cricket you’ll find players for numbers 3, 4, 5 who have decent defensive technique, have an appetite for runs and that’s your type, that’s the guy to back.” added.
He finished his argument by saying that the Indian pacer’s attack at the moment is understaffed given the pacers’ recurring injuries. That the team management had to turn to Umesh Yadav, especially for the WTC final, was never a good sign.

We had to go back to Umesh Yadav, which is not a good sign: Sanjay Manjrekar
“Just a few months ago, I was gloating about the depth we have in our seam bowling department, and suddenly Bumrah is out of shape. There are others quite fit like Prasidh Krishna so perhaps for Test cricket India needs to create a new line of fast bowlers. You should now search for specific test players. If someone gets injured, we should have backup ready. Like Scott Boland. He went in right away and made an impact. We had to go back to Umesh Yadav, which is not a good sign.” concluded by saying
