Former Indian coach Dilip Vengsarkar feels that the India team needs to develop bench strength for the future. He touted Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad as the two prospects, saying the team also needs to spot fast bowlers and spinners.

The Indian team has come under a lot of scrutiny after their loss in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. This was not the first time they had lost at ICC events, as a massive loss of 209 in the WTC final marked their ninth consecutive loss at ICC tournaments.

Dilip Vengsarkar highlighted the importance of bench strength for the future, naming Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad as the two key players for the future. Speaking to RevSportz, he said:

“We need to develop our bench strength because that is very important. Unless you have bench strength, you can’t do well in any format. And I’m sure we have tremendous talent in the country. In the next 10 to 15 years, we can get it right.”

“Yes, there are a lot of young talents emerging. Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the players of the future. Ruturaj Gaikwad is another. The selectors need to spot some fast pitchers and spinners who can win your games, and that’s very important.”

IND vs WI: “It was a tremendous achievement for the team to reach the World Test Championship final,” says Dilip Vengsarkar

Dilip Vengsarkar further backed the Indian selectors, who are facing backlash from the national team after their WTC final loss. He said that it was a great achievement to reach the final and he is sure that India will have a bright future. He explained:

“Nobody is happy with the selection, as people feel that X and Y should be in the team. You can’t make everyone happy. Each selector has his point of view and does it according to his instincts. But I am sure that India has a very bright future with many young talents on the way. It was a great achievement for the team to reach the World Test Championship final, and I hope we can do better in the future.”

The India team will be seen in action when they travel to the West Indies for the full tour. They will play 2 Tests, 3ODIs and 5T20Is in the Caribbean. The Tour will start from July 12.
