Sourav Gangulya former Indian captain, has emphasized that Indian batsmen must produce match-winning performances if they are to prevail in ICC international competitions.

Sourav Ganguly, BCCI Chairman and former captain of the Indian cricket team, has commented on India’s recent run of poor performances in major cricket competitions. According to him, winning performances are necessary for any team to win meaningful finals.

Ganguly gave other examples, such as Australia’s game-winning efforts by Steve Smith and Travis Head, as well as India’s 2011 World Cup victory, which included MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir.

“You can’t beat good teams with an average of 26 or 28”- Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, BCCI Chairman and former captain of the Indian cricket team, was asked about the poor international averages of Indian batsmen in recent years, to which he replied:

“Rahul Dravid will have to pay attention to this and how it can be improved in the future. You can’t beat good teams averaging 26 or 28. Your best hitters need to score runs averaging 50-70 in a series.” Sourav Ganguly said.

In the 2021-23 WTC cycle, India’s batsmen struggled both at home and away. India’s pundit group may have to reconsider their technique of playing range turners at home as poor performances from their batsmen may have left them low on confidence even during overseas tours.
