India call up 35 net bowlers to address spin threat ahead of IND vs NZ 3rd Test

In the second IND vs NZ Test, the Indian batting line-up was derailed by the Kiwi spinners.

After losing 2-0 and already conceding the three-match Test series, the Indian management has called up 35 net bowlers ahead of the final IND vs NZ Test match in Mumbai in a bid to avoid a whitewash of the series.

The team management has asked the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to allow net players to join India’s first comprehensive practice session after a two-day break. It should be noted that it will not be optional training and will be mandatory for everyone.

According to a report in Indian Express, it is understood that most of the net bowlers are expected to be spinners as India look to deal with the Kiwi threat, which derailed the batting line-up in the decisive second match in Pune .

In the Pune game, left-arm bowler Mitchell Santner continually troubled the Indian batsmen and produced a match-winning performance, his figures of 13 for 157 being the third-best by a visiting bowler in India.

IND vs NZ third test expected to shift rank

India faced a tough 113-run defeat on a spin pitch in the Pune Test, with the batsmen struggling against the foreign spinners. However, unlike a range-changing player, the Pune surface provided slower spin with unpredictable bounce that developed as the match progressed as the star-studded Indian batting line-up spun for 19 of its 20 wickets, with left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner claiming 13 of them.

Despite the loss, recent reports have claimed that the Indian management wants to rely on a familiar strategy and has therefore asked the MCA for a rank change as well for the third and final Test, which will begin on Friday (1 November).
