India set world record after aggressive batting display
During their batting, the Men in Blue surpassed England for the most no. six in a calendar year. After the end of the first innings, India had reached 96 sixes in 2024 and with many Tests still to be played this year, the record is likely to rise.
These 96 sixes have come in just 14 innings, which is quite phenomenal. With 96 sixes in 2024 so far, India has surpassed England’s total of 89 sixes in 29 innings in 2022.
England’s 89 sixes are a result of their ‘Bazball’ approach in Test cricket, where they play aggressive cricket with a positive mindset. They have addressed this approach since Brendon McCullum took over as Tests head coach.
But India’s 96 sixes in 14 innings is simply incredible and shows the confidence in the team’s batting order. Players like Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have not been afraid to take on the bowling attacks, as they also showed against Bangladesh.
With Rishabh Pant back in the Playing XI, the six-hit streak has received another big boost. In the ongoing Kanpur Test, Indian batsmen smashed 11 sixes in total and Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed the most with 3 sixes.
List of most Sixes per team in a calendar year
India – 96 (2024) England – 89 (2022) India – 87 (2021) New Zealand – 81 (2014) New Zealand – 71 (2013)
Indian batsmen put on exciting batting display
Meanwhile, the Indian batsmen only batted one way against Bangladesh despite losing wickets at regular intervals. The batsmen clearly showed intent to produce a result in the match despite only two days remaining as India took a 52-run lead in the first innings.
Rohit Sharma scored a fiery 23 off 11 balls and paved the way for the rest of the batsmen to come. After Rohit’s dismissal, the batsmen did not slow down and smashed the bad balls to boundaries. Jaiswal took the responsibility and was all over Bangladesh’s bowling attack.
The talented left-handed opener was India’s top scorer with 72 off just 51 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes. Virat Kohli also showed glimpses of his return to form with 47 off just 35 balls. Kohli also showed aggressive intentions in a bid to score as many runs as possible.
Despite losing wickets in the middle order, Kohli and Rahul continued to play aggressively. Rahul’s return to form was another big news for India as he scored a brilliant 68 off 43 balls. Akash Deep also showed his batting capabilities by smashing two sixes towards the end.
