India T20 Squad vs West Indies Announced; Rinku Singh Ignored, Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Snubbed

The BCCI, on Wednesday (July 5), announced the squad of Team India for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is in the Caribbean outfit.

The BCCI had already announced the Test and ODI squads last month as both series will be played before T20I. As expected, the selectors have chosen some new faces in the squad. Highly-skilled batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal highlights the new additions to the India T20I squad.

The opener, who is also a part of India’s Test squad, impressed everyone with his batting performance in IPL 2023. He was one of the best bat-wielkers in IPL, scoring 625 runs in 14 games with the help of 1 century and 5 half centuries. During the tournament, he also scored the fastest fifty in IPL history.

The panel led by Ajit Agarkar has also included unlimited Tilak Varma in the squad after the left-handed hitter’s consistent impressive displays on the domestic circuit. Playing for the Mumbai Indians, Varma scored 343 runs at an average of close to 43 while posting his runs at 164.11.

Rinku Singh and the veteran players snubbed:

One of the biggest surprises in the team is the absence of Rinku Singh, who was backed by many to make it to the India team. The lefty was also one of the best in IPL 2023 as he impressed with his finishing qualities. With India desperately in need of a good finisher, many believed that Rinku would be in the squad for the T20I series. Rinku scored 474 runs at an average of 59.25 and a strike rate close to 150.

Aside from Rinku, veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been snubbed yet again. The latest move is yet another indication that the selectors have decided to move on and it is unlikely that Rohit and Kohli will play T20I again. With Rohit out, Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the team, while Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as his deputy.
