The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce incentive schemes for uncapped players who will represent their nations between the two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricbuzz reports revealed the development ahead of the 2024 auction.

Previously, if an uncapped player was brought up for auction, he was obligated to play at the same salary for the next three years or until the franchise released him. However, as per the current policy, an uncapped player, who will receive a minimum of INR 50 lakh in the auction, can get a higher salary if he represents the nation.

Reports added that an uncapped player’s salary will double if he plays 10 international matches between two IPL seasons. For example, if a player receives INR 50 lakh and represents his international team 10 times before the next season, he will receive INR 1 crore for the next edition of IPL.

The BCCI recently revealed the fee regulation for uncapped players. They released the three-point statement, saying that there will be no minimum fee regulations for the league. They said (as mentioned on Cricbuzz):

“(a) Prior to the start of any season, the league fee payable to any uncapped player is less than Rs. 50 lakhs; and

“(b) Said player is then selected or achieves 5 or 10 caps at any time during the period between the end of a season and the start of the following season.

“(c) the league fee payable to such player for the next season and any subsequent season if the contract of such player is extended by the relevant franchise shall be Rs. 50 Lakhs while said player has 1 Cap, Rs. 75 Lakhs provided the said player has between 5 and 9 capitals and Rs. 1 crore if the player has 10 Caps or more; and

“(d) if such player is subsequently traded, prior to such trade his league fee shall be deemed to be determined in accordance with paragraph (c) above. Clarified that for the purposes of calculating the salary cap, if the player is traded, any increase in a player’s league fee will be applied to the new franchise’s salary cap. However, if the player remains with the existing team, such increase will not affect the franchisee’s salary cap and the salary cap will remain the same as prior to the increase in the player’s league fee.”

This is likely to be applicable from the next IPL season. It will be a great opportunity for the young players as the BCCI incentives will definitely bring out the best in them. He will also provide the respective international teams with great players.
