Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Monday (April 15), beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 25 runs in the 30th game of IPL 2024. After posting a record total of 287/3, SRH restricted RCB to 262/7.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis shared an 80-run stand for the first wicket before Mayank Markande dismissed the former for 42 in the seventh over. RCB’s middle order faltered again as Will Jacks (7), Rajat Patidar (9) and Saurav Chauhan (0) failed to score much. Du Plessis too could not stay till the end and departed after scoring 62 as RCB found themselves five down for 122 in the 10th over.
Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror stopped the rot with a 59-run stand for the sixth wicket. Pat Cummins broke the stand by dismissing Lomror for 19. Karthik fought a lone battle and played a good knock of 83 runs but could not take RCB to the line. In the end, RCB finished with 262/7 and suffered their sixth defeat in seven matches this season.
Early in the game, Travis Head’s blistering century helped SRH amass a record total of 287/3 in 20 overs after Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Head completed his fifty in just 20 balls in the powerplay and shared a 108-run stand with Abhishek Sharma for the first wicket in just 49 balls. He then completed his first IPL century in just 39 balls before departing for 102 runs. His knock came from 40 balls and he was studded with nine fours and eight sixes.
Heinrich Klaasen then took the RCB bowlers to cleanliness with a blistering knock of 67 runs off just 31 balls. The Proteas star’s knock was peppered with two fours and seven sixes. Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad then came up with brilliant cameos to boost their team to a total of over 280.
They shared an unbeaten stand of 56 runs in just 18 balls. Markram remained unbeaten on 32 off 17 balls, while Samad scored 37 runs off 10 balls.
