The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 hosted two matches on Saturday (March 23). The first match took place between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Chandigarh. In the second game, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In the first match, Punjab Kings emerged victorious by beating Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets to start their campaign with victory. DC were asked to bat first and made a decent start to the bat, thanks to David Warner (29) and Mitchell Marsh (20).

Shai Hope (33) and Rishabh Pant (18) made useful contributions, but a real charge came from the bat of Abishek Porel (32*). Going by the crucial innings by them, Delhi Capitals posted a total of 174 runs on the board. For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/28.

Shikhar Dhawan (22) played a vital role in getting his team on top. Prabhsimran Singh (26) also contributed well. But the heroes of Punjab Kings’ innings were Sam Curran (63) and Liam Livingstone (38*). They counter-attacked the Delhi bowlers and added 67 runs to take the house.

In the second game, KKR were asked to bat first and they got off to a torrid start with the bat. Although Phil Slat (54) scored a vital half-century while opening. But at the other end, the wickets continued to fall and they faltered at 51/4.

Ramandeep Singh (35) came out and changed the momentum of the game but after getting out, KKR were under pressure at 105/6. But that was when Rinku Singh (23) and Andre Russell caused carnage among the bowlers and brought their team back.

Andre Russell (64*) scored a brutal half-century, while Rinku Singh supported him well. The hosts posted a mammoth total of 208 runs on the board. For SRH, apart from Mayank Markande, T Natarajan picked three wickets.

In the chase, Mayank Agarwal (32) and Abhishek Sharma (32) gave the team a brutal start. The duo added 60 runs for the opening stand. But they couldn’t convert the output they had. Rahul Tripathi (20) and Aiden Markram (18) did not look comfortable as SRH were reeling at 111/4.

Heinrich Klaasen played blindfolded, scored 63 runs off 29 balls and brought his team back into the game. SRH were almost down but they changed the course of the game and put pressure on KKR. However, he could not finish the game as KKR won by 4 runs.

After PBKS vs DC match 2 and KKR vs SRH match 3 IN IPL 2024, Chennai Super Kings continued to stay on top. While after the victory over DC, PBKS took second place. Kolkata Knight Riders moved up to third place. While the rest of the teams have not yet opened their account.

Andre Russell is the holder of the orange cap in IPL 2024. He leads the standings with 64 runs and is followed by Heinrich Klaasen who has 63 runs. Sam Curran is in third place, while Phil Salt and Anuj Rawat are in fourth and fifth place respectively.
