IPL 2025: Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya to continue as members of IPL governing council

Arun Dhumal, along with Avishek Dalmiya, will be re-elected as members of the IPL Governing Council (GC). According to Cricbuzz reports, it is learned that both officials are expected to be elected unopposed as there are no other nominations against them.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is scheduled to take place on Sunday (September 29) in Bengaluru. There are some agendas to discuss, and agenda item B reads: “Election and induction of 2 (two) representatives of the General Body into the IPL Governing Council.”

As per constitutional requirement, both Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya filed their nominations for the same. Both will maintain their positions and continue in their respective roles. This means Dhumal will continue as IPL president for at least one more year.

Reports claimed that before the BCCI Annual General Meeting, the IPL governing council will discuss this matter. They will also address key issues such as player retention and the salary cap ahead of the mega auction, which is expected to take place in November this year.

The BCCI is also likely to announce the retention rules in the near term. There have been reports claiming that IPL franchises will also be allowed 5 holds along with an RTM card. They will also receive a purse of between Rs 115 and 120 million.

Chamundeswaranath will also be re-elected as the Cricketers’ Association of India representative on the IPL governing council.

Agenda item C of the Annual General Meeting is also related to the IPL governing council. This is the incorporation of a representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA). In this section the same person will continue. Former Andhra and Southern Zone cricketer Chamundeswaranath was re-nominated by the ICA. The fact was confirmed by ICA secretary Hitesh Muzumdar.

The appointment of the BCCI representative to the ICC will also be one of the agendas of the Annual General Meeting. This is included in point Q, which relates: “Appoint BCCI Representative(s) to the International Cricket Council (ICC) or similar organization.”

Currently, Jay Shah is the representative of the world body. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will need a new person as Shah will become the independent president of the ICC. Reports stated that two representatives may be selected.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will also look to bring in a new secretary after Jay Shah. But the matter will not be part of this Annual General Meeting. The governing body will hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (SGM) once Shah leaves office.

The Extraordinary General Assembly is likely to take place in November. The governing body will have 45 days to elect a new secretary, meaning the office holder is expected to be chosen around January 15. Jay Shah, on the other hand, will take over as ICC president on December 1.
