IPL 2026: BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia releases massive update on playoff announcement date

The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has crossed the halfway mark and fans have witnessed some incredible encounters, from super overs to highest run chase and some impressive centuries. The tournament will enter its 44th match tonight when two of the most successful teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), will take on Mumbai Indians (MI).

Ahead of the IPL Classic, the Indian National Women’s Cricket Team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 was announced. During the same press conference, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia gave an update on the IPL, mentioning the date of announcing the playoff date for IPL 2026.

IPL playoffs schedule coming in two days: Devajit Saikia

“The IPL playoff schedule will come in two days. The BCCI is seriously thinking of taking steps so that the reputation of the IPL is not damaged,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. When asked about last year’s finalists’ convention that the Playoffs hosted, Saikia said, “You can keep asking, but I won’t say anything for now.”

Earlier, the IPL governing council released the dates of the group stage matches in two phases due to the Assembly elections in India. India Today reported last month that the announcement on the venues for the playoffs, including the final, would be Bengaluru and New Chandigarh.

However, there have been no updates on playoff venues or dates yet. The match is approaching the final phase with 26 matches left to play. In May, there are no doubleheaders on Saturdays; They will only be on Sundays.

India ready to compete in Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

Apart from the IPL playoffs update, the BCCI secretary also gave an update on the women’s team leaving for the next major ICC competition. He said: “The team will leave on the 22nd.”

India, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and the Netherlands are in the same group. This will be an exciting group and is expected to be a group to die for, with the top three teams competing against each other.
