TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match no. The 20th was between the two heavyweights, Mumbai Indians (MI) hosting the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RCB beat MI by 18 runs. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first.

Phil Salt was the aggressor between the two and scored at a strike rate of over 200. The English opener hit three sixes in the fourth over off Mitchell Santner. RCB scored 71/0 in the powerplay and were in complete control. The English batsman raised his fifty in 25 balls. The two achieved the 100-run partnership in just 8.4 overs.
Salt returned to the dugout after scoring a well-made 78 and gave the start RCB needed in the game. Captain Patidar came on strongly from the first ball and never slowed down his running pace in the game. Kohli made a half-century off 35 balls and was dismissed immediately after scoring his fifty.
The RCB captain was dismissed for 53 runs off 19 balls. Tim David then scored 34 off 16 balls and helped RCB post the highest ever total at Wankhede of 240/4 at the end of 20 overs.
Coming out in chase, MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma started firing from the first over. However, the latter had to return after suffering a hamstring injury, as he was retired injured with 19 runs. After the good start, the five-time winner lost momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Sherfane Rutherford was the highest run-getter with a score of 71 and was unbeaten, then captain Hardik Pandya scored 40 and Rickelton scored 37 but it was not enough to chase a target of 241 runs. MI fell short by 19 runs.
