IPL playoff scenarios for CSK, RCB, DC and LSG if SRH vs GT goes away

The start of the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was delayed due to rain and wet outfields. The match was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., but there is already a delay of more than an hour because so far the rain has been a spoilsport.

There is a chance that the game could go away just like the game between GT and Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this week. In case the game is lost, it will have a big impact on the playoff race. So far, only KKR and Rajasthan Royals have booked their place in the playoffs.

As many as five teams are still in the playoff fray: Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants. On the other hand, GT, Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have already been eliminated from the competition.

If the game between SRH and GT fails, SRH will become the third team to qualify after KKR and RR. The defeat will take their points tally to 15 points and take them to third place in the points table. It would also turn the match between CSK and RCB into a virtual semi-final.

RCB must win the match to reach the playoffs. Not only that, they will also have to improve their net run rate to finish above CSK. On the other hand, CSK can qualify for the playoffs even after a defeat if they manage to secure a better net performance than RCB. Currently, CSK’s net run rate (+0.528) is better than RCB’s (+0.387).

As far as DC and LSG are concerned, their chances are extremely low. DC finished their league campaign with 14 points and a net run rate of -0.377. On the other hand, LSG will only be in the fight if they manage to win their last league game and finish with 14 points. Even then, his chances are extremely low due to his poor net run rate which is -0.787.
