The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to address disciplinary issues related to the players of the national cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board has formed a special committee to meticulously decide the actions against the players who violate the discipline of the national cricket team.

The Pakistan Board’s decision comes after a rift within the Pakistan squad following their recent disappointing performance at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam reportedly had differences during the showpiece tournament, where they suffered a group-stage exit.

The Babar Azam-led team suffered a shock defeat to the United States of America (USA) in their opening match. They lost by just 6 runs in a 120-run chase against eventual champions India. The 2009 champions were eliminated from the tournament without progressing to the Super Eight stage.

Following Pakistan’s poor performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, Babar Azam stepped down as captain. Shaheen Afridi took over the captaincy in the shortest format but was removed after just one series. Babar was appointed again ahead of the T20 World Cup, sparking rumours about team unity.

This review comes after concerns about internal problems arose following poor performances in recent tournaments.

A special committee has been set up to carefully review reports on player conduct. According to media reports, a former captain will chair this committee, which will guide disciplinary action to be taken based on the findings.

The committee’s recommendations will be instrumental in deciding the disciplinary measures to be applied to players who breach team conduct. The aim is to ensure that all decisions are fair and based on a thorough evaluation of the available evidence.
